Message text was already sealed with your encryption key. A set of fields around those messages was still stored in a readable form. Those fields are now sealed with the same key, and the readable copies have been removed.

Existing records were sealed in place. Nothing on screen asks you to do anything.

What is sealed

  • When a conversation or a message happened, and when a message was edited.
  • Message status.
  • Attachment file names and types, in conversations and in the mailbox.
  • The detail text on an activity entry.
  • Saved Crypton Chat times, for the thread and for each message.

While you are signed in, the screens still show a normal time, a normal status, and the file name. We open the seal with your key for that session.

What stays on the account

We still keep what the service needs to run. That includes the phone number a thread is with, your own numbers, the type of an activity entry, billing records, and AI usage dates. Billing stays for 7 years.
