Cloudflare notified our hosting provider that a third party filed a trademark infringement complaint regarding crypton.is. Cloudflare noted it provides CDN/security services only and identified the origin server IP as [redacted].

The complaint, submitted by Doppel Inc. on behalf of Match Group, LLC, alleged unauthorized use of the registered trademark tinder (USPTO registration no. 5067595) at the URL above, claiming it may cause customer confusion.

The reporter requested immediate removal of the allegedly infringing content and asked that future infringement be avoided.

We responded to the hosting provider's abuse ticket (forwarded from Cloudflare) regarding the page at https://crypton.sh/verification/guest/service/tinder.

Our response explained that this page is part of an auto-generated catalog of SMS verification numbers. The name "Tinder" appears only as plain text to identify which third-party service a customer may need a verification code for. The page does not display Tinder logos, brand colours, trade dress, or any statement of affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement by Match Group, LLC.

We stated that this use falls under nominative fair use: the service name is used solely to describe the compatibility of our temporary phone number product, not to trade on Tinder's goodwill. No reasonable visitor would believe this page is operated by or affiliated with Match Group, LLC.

We noted that "tinder" is also a common English noun (material used to start a fire) and that our page makes no dating-app representation whatsoever — it simply lists available verification destinations in alphabetical order.

Our position on Tinder

Crypton.is provides temporary phone numbers for receiving SMS verification codes. Catalog pages like this one list third-party services alphabetically so customers can find the destination they need.
